Vintage Tile with Sailboat and Dutch flag (Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum)

This hand painted Delft Blue tile was manufactured at the Royal Tichelaar Makkum (Friesland), The Netherlands, around 1960.

This Delft Blue tile was hand-painted around 1960 at the Dutch pottery factory Royal Tichelaar Makkum in Friesland. Water is depicted in the foreground, a sailboat is depicted in the center with two Dutch flags (these have the colors red, white and blue). In the background there are silhouettes of three sailing boats. In the corners of the tile there are ‘ox heads’. The tile has a wooden frame.

Interior advice
This Delft Blue tile fits both a classic and a modern interior. For example, you can place it on a TV cabinet or in a bookcase. It can also be hung on the wall as there is a hook present at the back.

Royal Tichelaar is the oldest Dutch family business, founded in 1565. This earthenware factory enjoys great fame for its extensive range of decorative tiles and pottery, made from locally mined yellow clay. This clay is hand shaped and painted in the traditional way.
