About Gouda Plateelbakkerij De Iris (1925-1969)
On 18 February 1925, Plateelbakkerij De Iris was founded in Gouda by Johannes Marinus Montagne (1899-1926). When Johannes died in 1926, his wife N.J. Montagne-Van Hofwegen took over the company. In addition to making Gouda polished plate, the company also manufactures tiles. These were purchased as bisque tiles from the Tegelhuis in Alphen aan de Rijn or from the Sphinx in Maastricht. Plateelbakkerij De Iris closed its doors on 5 February 1969.
