Delft Blue Tear Bottle (Royal Delft – Porceleyne Fles)

This hand-painted Delft Blue vase was manufactured in 1982 at the Porceleyne Fles in Delft.

This hand-painted Delft Blue vase was manufactured in 1982 at the Porceleyne Fles in Delft. This vase is hand painted: flowers and a bird are depicted on the vase. In all probability, this bottle owes its name and shape to the sailor who used to have to travel for long periods of time. When he said goodbye, his wife was left crying. Before the sailor left, her tears were collected in the long narrow neck. This was a unique memory to take with you on a journey. At the bottom is the mark of De Porceleyne Fles: an apothecary jar with the initials JT intertwined underneath (these stand for Joost Thooft, owner of the company in 1876). Below the bottle is the word ‘Delft’ with a curly capital letter D. On the left are the painter’s initials: CBU, the year code DB (1982) and the model number 8523.

Interior advice
This Delft Blue vase fits both a classic and a modern interior. For example, you can place it on a TV cabinet, bathroom cabinet, in a terrarium or in a bookcase.
