In 1983, this butter dish was manufactured at the Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft) in Delft. This butter dish is hand-painted: it depicts flowers and geometric motifs. At the bottom is the mark of De Porceleyne Fles: an apothecary jar with the initials JT intertwined underneath (these stand for Joost Thooft, owner of the company in 1876). Beneath the bottle is the word ‘Delft’ with a curly capital letter D. On the left are the painter’s initials: JEY (J. v. Eyk), the year code DC (1983) and the model number 4190.
