About West Germany (Scheurich)
A West Germany vase is (almost) always made in Germany. Under the name West Germany, there are about thirty different brands such as Scheurich, Bay, Jasba, Carstens and Dumbler&Breiden. In the 1950s through the 1970s, these brands were incredibly popular. Many vases were therefore produced during this period. A West Germany vase can be recognized by its “bouncy” appearance with a professionally applied glaze.
Scheurich always used white clay to produce the vases, which are usually marked at the bottom: ‘W.GERMANY’ or ‘WEST GERMANY’. Usually on the bottom is a two- or three-digit number (the model number) followed by a hyphen or space and then 2 numbers indicating the height in centimeters.
