Delft Blue Candlestick (Royal Delft – Porceleyne Fles)

This Delft Blue candlestick was manufactured in 1986 at the Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft) in Delft. The candlestick is hand-painted: floral motifs are depicted on all sides. At the bottom is the mark of De Porceleyne Fles: an apothecary jar with the initials JT intertwined underneath (these stand for Joost Thooft, owner of the company in 1876). Below the bottle is the word ‘Delft’ with a curly capital letter D. On the left are the painter’s initials: CVL (mevr. C. v.d. Vlist), the year code DF (1981) and the model number 1085.

This Delft Blue candlestick fits both a classic and a modern interior. You can place it for example on a TV cabinet, bathroom cabinet, (side) table, nightstand, bar or in a terrarium.

The Delft-based Porceleyne Fles ceramics factory, also known as Royal Delft, is the only manufacturer of Delftware still in existence in Delft, which has been hand-painting decorations on objects such as vases, wall plates, tiles and jugs since 1653, in accordance with old tradition. De Porceleyne Fles is known worldwide for its products and in 1919 the factory received the designation Royal.
