Delft Blue Tea Canister (Royal Delft – Porceleyne Fles)

This hand painted Delft Blue tea canister was manufactured in 1972 at De Porceleyne Fles in Delft, The Netherlands.

This Delft Blue tea canister was manufactured in 1972 at the Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft) in Delft. The tea can is hand-painted: floral and geometric motifs are depicted on the belly and lid. At the bottom is the mark of De Porceleyne Fles: an apothecary jar with the initials JT intertwined underneath (these stand for Joost Thooft, owner of the company in 1876). Below the bottle is the word ‘Delft’ with a curly capital letter D. On the left are the painter’s initials: GHA, the year code CR (1972) and the model number 716. In the lid there is another signature, presumably by another painter: OWW.
