About West Germany (Bay)
A West Germany vase is (almost) always made in Germany. Under the name West Germany there are about thirty different brands such as Scheurich, Bay, Jasba, Carstens and Dümler&Breiden. During the 1950s through the 1970s, these brands were incredibly popular and many vases were produced during this period. A West Germany vase can be recognized by its “bouncy” appearance with a professionally applied glaze.
Bay always used white clay to produce the vases, which are usually marked on the bottom: ‘BAY’. Usually on the bottom is a two or three digit number (model number) followed by a dash or space indicating the height in centimeters. Bay’s decorations are embossed and geometric motifs are often used.
