About West Germany (Jasba)
A West Germany vase/jar is (almost) always made in Germany. Under the West Germany name, there are some thirty different brands such as Scheurich, Bay, Jasba, Carstens, Dümler&Breiden and Ruscha. In the 1950s through the 1970s, these brands were incredibly popular. Many vases were therefore produced during this period. A West Germany vase can be recognized by its “bouncy” appearance with a professionally applied glaze.
The Jasba factory was founded in 1962 by Jakob Schwaderlapp in Ransbach – Baumbach, near Koblenz. The name Jasba is composed of the first two letters of the founder’s first name (JAkob), the first letter of his last name (Schwaderlapp) and the first two letters from the second part of the founding place (BAumbach). In 1971 the company closed its doors.Christiane Reuter was the designer around 1960-1970 who used especially brightly colored glazes. These years were also called the “Bunte Welt der keramik”.
